paul - bass, acoustic guitars and vocals

1968-1972 Brave New World - based in Scarborough, my home-town, comprised 2 guitarists (one who doubled up on electric violin) bass, drums and vocalist. Played all original material influenced by bands such as Family, Fairport Convention and Wishbone Ash etc. Runners up in the first ever Melody Maker semi-pro band competition, which prompted several contract offers. This raised our profile and enabled us to play nationally at such gigs as the Marquee and Roundhouse (London) Newcastle City Hall supporting Lindisfarne and the Penthouse (Scarborough). We were almost resident at the Penthouse (great parties on New Years Eve!). A couple of T.V spots for a Yorkshire T.V program and the Beeb, and then that was it. 1972-1973 Blue Jay Show Band - club band and like Alan says in his biog, loads o'dosh an' laughs but boring music. 1973 HUTCH AND IT'S EASY - started off as a trio fronted by Hutch, a great singer/guitarist who had just toured with Bowie. The drummer, Johnny Cambridge (ex Juniors Eyes) was known as It's and I was known as Easy! This was an attempt to get back into serious music and Hutches talents (he also had the all important contacts) lent themselves ideally to country/rock/folk music. 1974 Moved to Sheffield and, after a short non-gigging interlude with Ian and Nigel, I joined Eckington based band SHAPE OF THE RAIN for a brief period. Although an original band, my songs didn't suit the band so.... 1975-1978 ...came the birth of Rodger Mk1 (see 'about Rodger' and more photos). The line up was, on guitars Nigel and Dave Carr, Ian on drums and myself on bass. With songs reflecting 'the time' from myself, Dave and Nigel, this was arguably the most productive, successful and enjoyable period of the band. For the last few months of the life of the band Adrian Joules replaced Dave who went on to play with Push and then unfortunately for us Punk came and we went. 1978-1979 MICKEY'S MONKEYS - very loud club band playing Toto, Rainbow, Santana etc. 1980-1981 FACE VALUE - a non-descript club trio. 1983 STEEL CITY BLUED BAND - back with Ian (drums) and Adrian Joules (guitar) the name says it all. 1998-? Rodger - how long will it last?
