sheffield's finest
playing classic rock favourites
nigel - electric, acoustic guitars and vocals
THE OTHERS - We all bought guitars & drums and learned to play because we
wanted to be pop stars. We were called The Others because that was written
on the bass drum when we bought it. First number ever played on stage 'You've
Got To Hide Your Love Away' - The Beatles. I got chucked out of the band 'cos
I couldn't do a gig - my dad made me stay in to do my homework! 1967-1969
- NEW APPROACH - A soul band without a brass section. Split up due to singer's
extra-curricular activities with bass-player's girlfriend. 1969 - BRIXTON
CAT - Three-piece pop band - the name came from an ad I saw in the Melody
Maker. The only thing I can remember about the band is a massive fight between
bikers and skinheads at one of our gigs. 1970-71 - UNCLE SAM'S MAGIC BUS - Great name, great band. Only lasted seven months, but
did 106 gigs. The drummer had just auditioned for Yes when Bill Bruford was
going to leave - we must have been the first band ever to cover Yes numbers.
Notable gigs included Wigan Casino and The Cavern. The band's name is on the
Wall of Fame at the Cavern Club, Liverpool. 1971-72 - BUTCH - My first band in Sheffield. (Had much more hair in those days!) Played a
few supports, including Arthur Brown (without the flaming headdress). The
keyboard player went on to play in bands with Richard. 1972-1974 - SCARECROW - My first band with two lead guitarists - we had to cover Wishbone Ash numbers!
1976-1978 - RODGER MK1 - The original Rodger,
playing mainly songs written by Paul. Appeared on Radio 1 as an up and coming
band yet to get a recording deal. Fizzled out due to punk - no-one wanted
to sign rock bands. Original guitarist Dave left to form punk(ish) band Push
and was replaced by Adrian from Hot Valves. 1979-80, 1993, 1995-present -
EBONY MOONBEAM - A band put together
to play the clubs (Richard on bass). We got too clever for our own good in
terms of the material we played. Too many complaints from concert secretaries
put an end to the band! Ebony Moonbeam is still going strong today, playing
songs from the 60's to 90's at private functions (contact us for more details).
Alan is now also in the band. 1999-present - RODGER - The nightmare continues!! Original members Ian, Paul and Nigel have been
joined by Alan and Richard.
